Property owners and managers, and other real estate professionals in the private and public sectors, are invited to attend this seminar. 
 
Topics to be covered include: 

  • Overview of federal/state fair housing laws and protected classes (including race, national origin, disability, familial status)
  • Prohibited activities (including a refusal to rent, discriminatory statements, harassment/retaliation)
  • Disability discrimination and reasonable accommodation/modification requests
  • Overview of enforcement actions (administrative complaints/private lawsuits)
  • Suggestions for developing pro-active fair housing policies

​Fair Housing Advocates of Northern California is pleased to present: “Successfully Housing People with Disabilities – A Conference on Fair Housing Law and Reasonable    Accommodations”

Thursday, January 20, 2022
​​9:30 am – 1:30 pm
Via Zoom

The conference offers an overview of the federal and state fair housing laws, followed by small group discussions to help find practical solutions to commonly asked questions from housing providers and tenants on reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities during the application, occupancy, and eviction stages. 
​
The program will include break-out sessions, which are interactive. Participants are requested to actively participate and have their cameras on during the break-out sessions.
 
The conference is appropriate for:  
  • Rental housing providers in the public and private sectors
  • Resident & property managers
  • Staff of assisted living facilities
  • Housing and disability advocates
  • Service providers and fair housing staff
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Attorneys and legal services staff
  • Anyone who regularly works with persons with special needs

CFPB Virtual Home Appraisal Bias Event

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau held a virtual event on Tuesday, June 15th at 1:00 p.m. EDT for virtual discussions on home appraisal bias. Acting Director Dave Uejio hosted discussions with civil rights organizations, housing policy experts, and other federal agencies to explore how racial bias in housing appraisals and automated valuation models may occur.

FHANC's Executive Director, Caroline Peattie, participated in the 'Policy Discussion with Civil Rights and Consumer Advocates/Experts' session of the event.
