  • BMR (Below Market Rate) and first-time homebuyer’s programs    

​HUD Certification:
  • This is a HUD Certification Workshop that fulfills the certification requirement needed to apply for most Below Market Rate (BMR) units or for other First Time Homebuyer's Programs. 
  • Participants must attend both dates and fulfill all requirements to obtain a HUD Certificate. More details at registration.

CFPB Virtual Home Appraisal Bias Event

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau held a virtual event on Tuesday, June 15th at 1:00 p.m. EDT for virtual discussions on home appraisal bias. Acting Director Dave Uejio hosted discussions with civil rights organizations, housing policy experts, and other federal agencies to explore how racial bias in housing appraisals and automated valuation models may occur.

FHANC's Executive Director, Caroline Peattie, participated in the 'Policy Discussion with Civil Rights and Consumer Advocates/Experts' session of the event.

Successfully Housing People with Disabilities – A    Conference on Fair Housing Law and Reasonable    Accommodations”

Thursday, February 25, 2021

The conference offers an overview of the federal and state fair housing laws, followed by small group discussions to help find practical solutions to commonly asked questions from housing providers and tenants on reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities during the application, occupancy, and eviction stages. 
 
The conference is appropriate for:  
  • Rental housing providers in the public and private sectors
  • Resident & property managers
  • Staff of assisted living facilities
  • Housing and disability advocates
  • Service providers and fair housing staff
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Attorneys and legal services staff
  • Anyone who regularly works with persons with special needs 
 
Pre-registration is required to attend. The registration fee is $20 per person. Scholarships are available. Contact us for more information.

​Fair Housing Advocates of Northern California will present the upcoming panel: “Fair Housing in Times of COVID-19,” on Wednesday, December 9, 12:00 to 1:30 pm via Zoom. The panel will address COVID-19 trends and impacts affecting protected classes, and strategies and recovery efforts underway at the local and state levels. Panelists will discuss how the pandemic is disproportionally affecting vulnerable communities, including ethnic and racial minorities, women, victims of domestic violence and sexual harassment, and people with disabilities.  
 
The forum is appropriate for housing advocates, staff of service organizations, elected officials, city and county staff, community leaders, and tenants.
 
Panelists include Omar Carrera, Chief Executive Officer, Canal Alliance; Liz Darby, Social Equity Program and Policy Coordinator, County of Marin; Felicity Gasser, HCD Specialist II, Federal Programs, California Department of Housing & Community Development; Julia Howard-Gibbon, Supervising Attorney, Fair Housing Advocates of Northern California; Moderator: Caroline Peattie, Executive Director, Fair Housing Advocates of Northern California
