The program will include an interactive break-out session. Participants are requested to actively participate and have their cameras on during the session.
The conference is appropriate for:
- Rental housing providers in the public and private sectors
- Resident & property managers
- Staff of assisted living facilities
- Housing/disability advocates and service providers (including fair housing staff)
- Persons with disabilities
- Attorneys and legal services staff
- Anyone who regularly works with persons with special needs
The conference is supported by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and co-sponsored by: Disability Services & Legal Center (DSLC), Disability Rights California (DRC), and Marin Center for Independent Living (MCIL).

Topics to be covered include:
- Overview of federal/state fair housing laws and protected classes (including race, national origin, disability, familial status)
- Prohibited activities (including a refusal to rent, discriminatory statements, harassment/retaliation)
- Disability discrimination and reasonable accommodation/modification requests
- Overview of enforcement actions (administrative complaints/private lawsuits)
- Suggestions for developing pro-active fair housing policies
